Abstract

The present research aims to investigate aspects of verisimilitude in tale Kappa (1927), by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, whose analysis of this narrative allows a better understanding of the works that involve the author and his ideas, thus contributing to studies in Japanese literature. For this, theoretical considerations and surveys were be made on the definitions of literature and your functions, mimesis and especially on the verisimilar aspects, which will serve as a basis for understanding the theme. The research is bibliographic in nature and the authors will be used as theoretical basis Compagnon (2014) present in The Demon of Theory: Literature and Common Sense, for observations on the verisimilitude in literature, Warren and Wellek (2003) conceptions in Theory of Literature and methodology of literary studies for the definitions of literature and your functions and Friedrich Nietzsche (2002, 2005) regarding philosophical questions. Therefore, this research made it possible to demonstrate that within the literary work there are credible and that its function is to relate reality to the narrative, in order to understand and reflect on society, as well as delight in reading the work.
