Water is an indispensable and essential chemical element for the maintenance of life, which makes it an important component in public health. On the other hand, water can be considered as a route for the transmission of diseases, especially by pathogenic microorganisms that may or may not be resistant to antibiotics. Currently, it is known that microorganisms, especially antibiotics, are considered a major threat to modern treatments, claiming the lives of millions of people around the world. In this scenario, the search for new alternatives with the potential to alleviate this problem has been increasing. Thus, the components from natural products are shown to be potent and promising in combating the spread of bacterial strains to humans, among which we can highlight the essential oil of Syzigium aromaticum, which has been shown to be an antimicrobial agent. Therefore, the present work aims to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Syzigium aromaticum against bacterial strains from drinking water. Bacterial strains were isolated from samples of water for human consumption or from the larger project entitled “IMPACT OF CLIMATE EVENTS (FLOOD AND DROUGHT) ON THE QUALITY OF WATER FOR CONSUMPTION OF INDIVIDUALS RESULTING IN FLOATING HOUSES IN THE AMAZON”. The effects of the essential oil were achieved through the Diffusion Disk Technique in Adaptation with the Antimicrobial Sensitivity Test. The results show that the maximum essential activity, in all oil sizes, are all antibacterials 2 with diameters 22 and 2 mm. (C13_Tefé), Vibrio spp. (C1_Coari) and Salmonella spp. (C5_Tefé). In addition, it showed remarkable activity to those who showed resistance to Chloramphenicol (30 µg), especially Vibrio spp. (C13_Tefé) and Vibrio spp (C4_Tefé) with diameters of 24 and 23 mm respectively. Our unique findings of such a component as a valid alternative for the treatment of recipients, specifically recognized by bacterial Vibrio spp. and Salmonella spp. present in water for human consumption. However, additional studies need to be performed to elucidate the essential oil cytotoxicity profile in experimental models. dc.description.resumoÁ água é um elemento químico indispensável e essencial para a manutenção da vida, o que a torna um componente importante na saúde pública.
