A representação da mulher negra em olhos d’água (2014), de Conceição Evaristo

Abstract

This article investigated the representation of black women in the work Olhos d’ Água (2014), by Conceição Evaristo, with a focus on the figuration of the feminine and violence in the narratives, contextualizing them within the scope of Brazilian black literature. In this sense, the theoretical support of this research is based on black literature, and on race and gender studies, based on authors such as: bell hook (2018), Duarte & Nunes, (2020), Alves & Pitanguy, (1985); Zolin, (2019), Pelegrini (2005), among others. The methodology is of a qualitative nature, of the bibliographical type, based on critical analysis in the short stories: “Maria”, “Ana Davenga”, and “Quantos filhos Natalina teve?”, thus, based on the concept called “escrevivência” (lifewriting) which, according to Conceição is related to the life experience and reports of black women, this research discusses the various forms of violence to which black women are subjected. The result of this research seems to indicate that the work Olhos d’água (2014) represents the racism and machismo that is dominant in Brazilian culture.
