O guaraná de Maués: um olhar sobre a sustentabilidade da cadeia produtiva

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the guarana production chain of Maués based on the dimensions of sustainability and identify which of the pillars is the most affected, for this the studies about the Triple Bottom Line were used. There are several researches on guarana, however, many of them are old and need new data, especially in the areas of sustainability of its production. For this reason, this research is justified by the need to know how sustainability is currently in the production of guarana in Maués. To obtain the results, a questionnaire with open questions divided into categories (environmental, social, economic and difficulties faced) was applied to the employees of the startup Waraná Mawé, a newcomer in the organic guarana marketing market. The results obtained show the sustainable environmental pillar with management techniques that do not harm the soil, in addition to the intense use of the fruit, from the seed to the bushing. The social pillar is composed of the offer of sustainable agricultural programs, which add value to guarana and generate employment in the city, which contributes to the popularity of the fruit that is still little known. While the economic pillar demonstrates an increase in the export of products, as a result of the IG and OB certifications, which by adding value to the fruit increased its price in the market, however, these comparative analyses of increase and decrease in demand suffer from the lack of technical support from research bodies, such as EMBRAPA. Finally, the research made it possible to know which of the tripods has difficulty implementing sustainable actions, which are the social and environmental tripod.
