A força no seu lado colorido: a educação sexual com estudantes do ensino médio e graduação em Pedagogia

Abstract

This course completion work is the result of the School Extension Project applied with High School students and with students of the Pedagogy course of the Institute of Education, Agriculture and Environment - IEAA/UFAM that proposed to develop didactic strategies to do Sex Education at School, because there are great difficulties in approach to issues related to sexuality and gender due to prejudices, myths and ignorance related to the theme. In this way, the Extension Project we carried out wanted to provide a colorful school environment as a transforming force of a society that educates for sexuality and not only guides. So, the Extension Project was articulated with the School Health Program (Decree 1,004/2023). In other words, it can be said that the Sex Education contains Sexual Orientation to the extent that in the principles of the human rights approach it makes it possible to speak, explain, problematize and deconstruct the negative representations socially imposed on subjects with "excluded" identities and expands the technical discussions that involve only pointing out the biological or distributing condoms. In this sense, the discussion on Gender as an integral part of Sex Education constitutes a political educational process and committed to the construction of a better, less unequal, more humane society. In these ways, it is clear that Sex Education is interdisciplinary and should be a cross-cutting theme that educators could promote the clarification of doubts and distorted conceptions that students have on various topics in this area. Working on this theme in the school environment requires a continuous, sensitive and contextualized approach, capable of following the physical, emotional and social development of young people. In addition, we opted for the use of participatory methodologies that value youth protagonist and transform students into active subjects in the construction of knowledge. Conversation wheel, debates, dynamics and case studies have enabled an environment of open and welcoming dialogue, in which doubts can be expressed without fear or embarrassment. We chose to work on Sex Education with two different groups at different levels of education: Basic education with the High School stage and Pedagogy graduates. It is noticed that there is a need for discussion on the subject both in schools and in undergraduate studies, and this is reinforced when the students themselves mention that there should be activities focused on these issues within the school and at the university, since it is clear that the school and academic community carries with it a certain fear of discussing gender and sexuality even if it is from the perspective of Sex Education.
