Sentidos do fazer de pesquisadores cisgêneros que investigam a temática transgênero e travesti no Brasil

Abstract

Understanding the meanings of cisgender researchers who investigate the transgender and transvestite theme helps the process of understanding the subjectivities involved in research on the subject. This research aimed to investigate the meanings applied by cisgender researchers who investigate the transgender and transvestite theme in Brazil. This is a qualitative, exploratory study. Fifteen researchers participated, ten cisgender men, five cisgender women, residents of nine Brazilian states. An online sociodemographic questionnaire constructed for the research was carried out with the objective of characterizing the profile of the researchers (eg., place of birth, state of residence, age, major completed training, length of experience as a researcher, employment relationship, area of ​​study, sexual orientation, race, religion, if they have an LGBTQIA+ children, if they have a transgender or transvestite person in their circle of affection). In addition, five open questions were constructed that sought to understand the approaches and challenges that these researchers had with the theme. Data were collected and analyzed using the meaning interpretation method. The results showed two categories: Approaches and Challenges. In the category of Approaches, we sought to understand the forms of proximity that the participants demonstrated with the theme, through identifications, representativeness and, or, gaps in training. While in the challenges it was noticed some discomfort with one of the perspectives of the place of speech that these researchers occupied.
