A relação entre estigmatização, violência e o adoecimento psíquico de pessoas trans no norte do Brasil: uma revisão narrativa

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the impacts of stigmatization and violence against transgender people, as well as their relationship with psychological distress, within the context of Brazil’s Northern Region. It seeks to investigate how persistent experiences of transphobic violations affect the mental health of the trans population and intensify the development of psychological disorders, including suicidal behaviors. The methodology adopted is qualitative in nature, based on a narrative literature review and an analysis of documentary findings related to the issue. Data analysis followed the Thematic Analysis method, enabling the identification of meaning patterns associated with the topic. The results indicate that numerous, constant, and severe forms of violence and other rights violations victimize trans people in the Northern Region, compromising various aspects of their quality of life, as reported by both academic literature and documentary research. Furthermore, frequent experiences of discrimination and marginalization were identified to be significant triggers for psychological suffering and suicidal ideation, reflecting the existence of hostile and potentially harmful environments for this group. In this context, the practice of non-violence emerges as a form of resistance to the transphobic horrors experienced. Consequently, the study highlights the need for effective public policies aimed at guaranteeing and promoting the rights of this population, as well as greater social mobilization committed to their care and protection. Therefore, this research may contribute to expanding the literature on the subject and to the development of new studies and projects focused on the mental health of transgender individuals.
